The Cooperative Bank of Chania started its activity as a Credit Cooperative in the year 1993, with the aim of providing professional and consumer credit services of high quality at low cost. It evolved into a Cooperative Bank in 1995. In the 27 years since its establishment, it has played an important role in the development of the local economy by following a dynamic action plan with impressive results. In 2007, the Cooperative Bank of Chania received a license from the Bank of Greece for transactions with non-members, within the framework of Law 3601/2007.

Today the Bank, with its 23 Branches and assets reaching half a billion euros, is an organization of essential importance for the development of Crete, a social economy bank, open to all and especially to small and medium-sized enterprises, which has been built with modern structures and with a human face. The Cooperative Bank of Chania has sound and solid foundations, great profitability and safe operation while at the same time ensuring very good returns for depositors, investors and the 26,000 shareholders who trust it.

At the same time, he founded the Real Estate Development company KRITIKA AKINITA S.A. which is already active in major projects in the real estate market in Crete with impressive results. At the beginning of 2009, the Cooperative Bank of Chania founded the company “CRETE HOLDINGS LIMITED BUSINESS HOLDINGS COMPANY” with the aim of strengthening local entrepreneurship by promoting the projects of local companies and entrepreneurs. The main purposes of the joint venture company include participating in the capital of companies, providing an alternative way of financing their establishment or development, supporting their Management, the possibility of accessing and utilizing modern development methods so that they can strengthen their capital adequacy and achieve faster and more efficient development on solid bases.

The success of the Business Plan which is implemented today establishes the Cooperative Bank of Chania as a business and social entity with a vision whose mission is to show that even today the social economy can co-exist, cooperate and fill the gaps of the free market by operating with sensitivity that does not work at the expense of the result.
